As all of our Mini Kicks families are well aware we love looking for where we can get together as a Mini Kicks family to impact the community in which we live 🙂
Our chosen charity for our Get Active Fun Day on the 9th June is b:friend. These guys do a fantastic job helping to engage our older members of our community and try to combat loneliness. After seeing there work first hand, their impact is amazing and it is great to show our support by letting people know about the work they do.
Founder, Mike Niles had this to say:
b:Friend pairs volunteer befrienders with socially isolated older neighbours in the community to pop in, once-a-week, for a cuppa and a chat. Many older people will often go days, or even weeks, without seeing or speaking with another person and our befrienders offer that much needed company and companionship across Doncaster.
Along with 1:1 support we also host weekly Social Club groups in various areas with activities ranging from dancing, singing, quizzes, indoor sports and outdoor day trips for anyone that wants to be more socially active in the area they live.
Our aim is to make Doncaster the least lonely place for older people to live and the community are making this happen by just volunteering one-hour a week to visit someone that lives nearby. We’re all neighbours, let’s b:Friend!
